What coatings are there for NdFeB magnets?

NdFeB magnets are usually plated with nickel, copper, chromium, gold, black zinc, blue and white zinc, epoxy resin, etc. The color of the magnet surface will vary depending on the electroplating, and the storage time will also be long or short.

Nickel: It looks like stainless steel color. It is difficult to oxidize the surface when left in the air. It has a good appearance and good gloss. The electroplating can pass the 12-72 hour salt spray test. Its disadvantage is that it cannot be bonded with some glues, which will cause the coating to fall off. Accelerate oxidation. Now the market is mostly nickel-copper-nickel. This electroplating method is subjected to 120-200 hours of salt spray.

Zinc: The surface looks silvery white. It can be subjected to 12-48 hours of salt spray. It can be bonded with some glues (such as AB glue). If the electroplating is good, it can be stored for two to five years.

Copper: It is mostly used in the hardware industry. Few people use it in the NdFeB industry. Its appearance is yellow.

Chromium: Chromium electroplating industry is also relatively rare. Its electroplating cost is very high, and general companies cannot accept it. But it has strong anti-corrosion ability and is difficult to react with other substances. It is mainly used in places with strong acidity and alkalinity.

Black zinc: It is to treat the surface of the product to black according to customer requirements. In terms of electroplating technology, it is mainly to add a layer of black protective film through chemical treatment on the basis of zinc plating. This film can also protect the product, increase the salt spray time, and prolong the oxidation time. But its surface is easily scratched and loses its protective effect. It is rarely used now, and most of them are replaced by resin.

Gold: Most of the yellow gold hand ornaments on some stalls we see on the street are gold-plated or copper-plated. Gold plating makes the product look as beautiful as gold. It is generally used in the hand jewelry industry. Our products can also be gold-plated for magnetic hand ornaments.

Epoxy resin: After the product is nickel-plated, a layer of resin paint is added to the outside. This industry has only had a market in the past two years. It has developed very quickly. Now many people use it on various electroplated products. Its biggest advantage is that it can achieve the color you want.

In summary, the appropriate coating should be selected according to the different use environments. The plating of different manufacturers is different. The main reason is the length of chamfering and electroplating time. Without understanding magnet electroplating, how should we judge the quality of the plating? In fact, the simplest way is to look at the plating. The brighter the plating, the better the quality.
